TriQuint Semiconductor was a global leader in advanced RF solutions utilizing compound semiconductor technologies, primarily Gallium Arsenide (GaAs). Founded in 1985 as a spin-off from Tektronix (originating from Hewlett-Packard's semiconductor division), TriQuint established itself as a critical innovator in RF components. Its core expertise lay in designing and manufacturing high-frequency, high-performance chips essential for managing and amplifying radio signals. Key product areas included:

Markets Served:
TriQuint's technology was fundamental to multiple high-growth sectors:

  1. Mobile Devices: A major supplier to leading smartphone manufacturers, providing critical RF front-end components enabling cellular (3G/4G), WiFi, Bluetooth, and GPS connectivity. Its components were inside billions of phones.

  2. Networks & Infrastructure: Supplied components for cellular base stations, broadband access equipment, and optical networks.

  3. Defense & Aerospace: Provided high-reliability RF solutions for radar, electronic warfare, communications, and satellite systems.

  4. Other: Broadband access, test & measurement equipment.

Key Differentiators & Legacy:

Transition to Qorvo:
In February 2015, TriQuint Semiconductor completed a strategic "merger of equals" with RF Micro Devices (RFMD), forming Qorvo, Inc. (NASDAQ: QRVO). This combination created a powerhouse in RF solutions, bringing together TriQuint's leadership in GaAs-based filters, PAs, and defense with RFMD's strengths in silicon-based RFICs and power management. The Qorvo entity leverages the combined technological portfolios, manufacturing scale, and customer relationships to lead in mobile, infrastructure, and defense markets. While the TriQuint brand was retired, its foundational technologies, manufacturing sites, and significant expertise remain core pillars of Qorvo's ongoing success in powering the connected world.
